Bill Martin

Specialties include professional magician, illusionist, escape artist, mentalist, and hypnotist.  His rich life esperiences allow him to communicate warmly with diverse audiences.  He has been a tractor mechanic and salesman, hard rock miner, carnival pichman and wrestler, Golden Gloves boxer, New York Metropolitan Opera extra, night club entertainer, and variety show producer.

He was a licensed private pilot at the age of 16 and is a retired Naval Aviator.  During Naval service, magic became his passionate spare-time activity.  In foreign ports-of-call he put together groups of sailors and marines to entertain children in schools, hospitals, and orphan homes.  But in Vietnam he experienced the true value of entertainment as an important people-to-people effort.  As the commander of an all-volunteer Navy helicopter gunship unit in the Mecong Delta, he flew 328 combat missions and performed more than 50 magic shows for the children throughout the Delta.  These impromptu shows created trust and communication, causing the Communist Viet Cong to place a price on his head.  His final Navy tour was as East Coast Media Representative in New York City.  He staged special events and traveled as advance man for the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team.

Upon retirement he created Mindreach Rehersal studios in New York City and provided services to top musicians and entertainers.  He has studied the life of Harry Houdini and has learned to duplicate famous escapes and illusions of a by-gone era.  He flew blindfolded round trip between London and New York in the 1969 Great Atlantic Air Race.  He claims to have received special powers from an Indian Fakir during a Navy visit to Singapore in 1955.  In 1981, he moved to New Mexico and subsequently set up a hypnotherapy practice.  He has presented healing workshops throughout the country and has trained medical staff at New York's Memorial Sloane-Ketterling Cancer Center.  He has, during brief periods, served the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus as Public Relations Director, Construction Bond Drive Chairman, Community Education workshop presenter, and elected member of the Campus Advisory Board.
